In August of 2009, John and Edye Skidmore opened The Dressing Room Dancewear and Children’s Apparel store in downtown Marion, Ohio to provide the community and surrounding areas a unique retail shopping experience in two distinct product categories – major name-brand dancewear and related supplies, and children’s fashion and gifts that are higher quality, more stylish alternatives to the discount and department store selections.

Edye, a former professional ballet dancer and a dance teacher for over 30 years, wanted to have a dance store in Marion so that her clientele and those of the other area dance studios could conveniently buy their dancewear, shoes, and supplies without having to travel an hour or more to a large city to buy them.  The Dressing Room is a full service dance store offering leotards, shoes, foundations, dance bags, and accessories from Capezio, Motionwear, Russian Pointe, Bunheads, and other popular name brands.

John wanted to add better quality children’s fashion and gifts to the store to provide the Marion community with an eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary fashions and novelties that are unique and special, just like the children that will “stand out in the crowd” when they wear them.  The Dressing Room features Corky & Company, Flap Happy, Isobella & Chloe, Vitamins, Tricia, Creative Knitwear, and many other apparel brands in sizes newborn to 8, as well as gift items from The Bearington Bear Collection, Lucy Locket, and Dasha, and others.
